Acupuncture
Traditional acupuncture is best known in the West for relieving pain – chronic and acute – but its reach is much wider. Rather than focusing on a person's illness, the treatment works to identify and restore the healthy resources they already have, where these have been blocked or cut off. The aim is not simply to remove a symptom but to return a person to a fuller, steadier state of health that is aligned with their own nature.
Who it helps
It is often used to treat pain conditions such as headache, lower back pain and osteoarthritis, but it is also very effective with functional disorders affecting digestion, sleep, hormone balance, the immune and nervous systems and respiration. Many people come when they feel restricted – held back from the activities they would like to be doing – and find that alongside the original complaint come other, unexpected benefits such as increased vitality, improved sleep, a balanced appetite and greater confidence and enjoyment of life.
Your first appointment
A first appointment lasts two hours and combines a full diagnosis with treatment, so the work begins straight away. This is £90. Follow-up sessions last an hour and are £60. The nature of the treatment is such that you will feel the benefit immediately, though more than one session is usually needed to stabilise the effect.
About Stephen
Stephen Brooke holds a B.A. (Hons) in Traditional Acupuncture and a Licentiate in Acupuncture, and is a member of the British Acupuncture Council – bound by its Code of Ethics and Safe-Practice and fully insured. He trained for three years at the College of Traditional Acupuncture in Leamington Spa and holds a postgraduate diploma in the theory and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. He is a Bon practitioner in the Buddhist tradition and has taught Tai Chi and Qi Gong. He has been in practice for over twenty years.
